A few notes on food:
Neopolitan ice cream = vanilla, strawberry and dulce de leche. Dulce de leche really is everywhere. (Side note, upon collecting my bags after arriving in Buenos Aires from Montevideo, I noticed a drop of what I am 99.9% sure was dulce de leche on my bag. Someone was probably eating an alfajor over the moving luggage belt. Argentina welcomed me appropriately.)
Pizza is almost always served with an olive per slice. Olives crop up in interesting places like empanadas too.
Boiled eggs also make an appearance atop pizza, in empanadas, or in other random places.
'Cheap' food choices include empanadas (beef, chicken, ham and cheese, or veggie) for 5 pesos or a superpancho (hot dog) for 10 or less. Hot dog accoutrements include the standard mustad and ketchup but also golf sauce (ketchup and mayo mixed), mayo alone, and crushed potato chips.
Dinner is an hour long affair, at least, as with lunch it is supposed to be eaten leisurely, with much conversing.
We always have dessert after dinner.
Breakfast is light, usually two media lunas (sweet croissants) and coffee.
